Elizabethan Banquet
Who needs, or would want, an excuse not to eat, drink and be merry? And what better way to do just that than in a grand setting which will transport you back in time to one of the most glorious periods in history. Lumley Castle's award winning Elizabethan Banquet is the perfect entertainment for those wishing to enjoy an evening of fun, feasting and merriment.
The year is 1591 and you are invited to attend the banquet feast of Sir Jon Lumley. Before the banquet starts the doors to the dungeons and guardroom are thrown open where wine, ale and mead can be purchased. You will be greeted with a friendly smile but take heed to be well behaved or his Lordship's executioner will deal with you!
First Remove - BARON'S BROTH - Homemade vegetable broth served with wholemeal bread
Second Remove - FYSHE WITH POTATO - Fish with creamed potato, topped with cheese served in a scallop shell
Third Remove - SPARE RIBS - Succulent ribs served in a red wine sauce with herbs
Fourth Remove - CHECKYN IN MEAD - Chicken cooked in mead sauce, jacket potato, salad and basil butter
Fifth Remove - APPLE CRUMBLE - A delight to end your repast

Lumley Castle Hotel has 73 bedchambers, including 14 new Courtyard bedchambers. Elizabethan Banquets are held throughout the week and most weekends. They can be booked exclusively for private parties, weddings or corporate events. Special banquets are held throughout the week during the Christmas & New Year period.
Approx event timings are: Arrival from 7.00 pm. Dungeon Bar opens at 7pm, Called to Borde at 8.00 pm, Bar until 12.30 am. Disco until 1.00 am (Sundays - the bar closes 11.30 pm, with dancing until midnight)

Directions by road: A1(M) junction 63. Take the turn off for Chester le Street and follow signs for Riverside. You will then pick up signs for Lumley Castle.

By ferry: Newcastle 14 miles.
